Browsing By Category

To view a list of foods suitable for a specific allergen, click on ‘allergen name’ in the top pane. You will be taken to a page for the selected allergen. Choose the food category you require from the list on the right of this page.

You can also view a full list of foods that are suitable for the chosen allergen by selecting the link at the end of the list. This option may take several minutes to process and download.

Each of the category list pages also contains information about criteria for excluding the selected allergen.

Searching

Simple Search: The ‘allergen’ page that you are taken to after selecting from the top pane contains a search box, located below the category list. This can be used to search by keyword for foods suitable for the selected allergen. Fields searched are food name and brand.

Advanced Search: The advanced search option enables filtering on various criteria and the production of combination exclusion lists. The advanced search page can be accessed using the Search button located at the right of the top pane. Instructions for completing each item on the search form are provided below:
Search Term:

To search for a particular item, enter a word or phrase in this field. The search works with full and part words. (For example, a search for "app" will return entries which include "apple"). The entire phrase is searched for as entered (for example a search for "orange fruit drink" will only return entries containing that phrase, not entries containing just "orange","fruit" or "drink". Operators such as "and" and "or" are not recognised.

Fields search are 'food name' and 'brand'.

The search term is optional; all items will be listed if left blank.

Food Type:

This enables you to select the type of food you are interested in. You can view all food types by selecting "All Categories". Viewing all categories may take some time to process and download, especially if a search term or manufacturer is not entered.

Manufacturer:

Use this to find a food produced by a particular manufacturer.

Free Of:

Select the allergen or allergens you would like excluded here. You must choose at least one exclusion allergen. Combination lists can be produced by selecting more than one allergen to exclude.

Output To Word:

If this is selected the list will be output to a Microsoft Word document instead of being displayed on the web page (see below).

Output Results To MS Word

Outputting a list to Microsoft Word enables more flexible use of the information. For example, Microsoft Word offers print options such as odd or even pages only (to allow double sided printing) and it is a convenient format to email.

Any list page can be output to a Microsoft Word document by clicking the MS Word icon located at the top right of the page. You can also send the results from the advanced search page direct to a word document by selecting "Output to word". The latter is quicker because it means the page only needs to be processed once.

Requirements: To use this feature you will need to have MS Word (97 or above) installed on your computer. You will also need to have the HTML extension installed if the lists are to be formatted correctly.
